More Poetry of Hafiz

I Have Learned So Much

I
Have
Learned
So much from God
That I can no longer
Call
Myself

A Christian, a Hindu, a Muslim,
A Buddhist, a Jew.

The Truth has shared so much of Itself
With me

That I can no longer call myself
A man, a woman, an angel,
Or even pure
Soul.

Love has
Befriended Hafiz so completely
It has turned to ash
And freed
Me

Of every concept and image
My mind has ever known.

~Hafiz

I like this poem a lot. I have never heard of the author, though.

Hafiz was a great Sufi poet from the 14th century. He was dubbed "the tongue of the Invisible".
If you google his poems there is lots on the internet.
"Good Poetry makes
The universe
Admit a secret:

"I am really just
A tambourine,
Grab hold,
Play me against
Your warm
thigh."

I love Hafiz and Rumi for how they express what seems to be inexpressible. How do we put words on these things? But poets come closest. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Healing Room,
I can appreciate your love of the poems written by Hafiz. He has come to see the light in the way that we have. Love and God transend all religions and all humanly limitations. Even the concept of our souls doens't truly speak to the depths of our potential.
Love and Peace,
Leah

Hafiz was one of the greatest poems of Persia. He lived and died in the beautiful city of Shiraz (old Persia, current Iran). You can read more about him at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafez
