Bioluminescence and the Sunshine Coast

My daughter and I were fortunate enough to be visiting my sons on the Sunshine Coast when a bloom of bioluminescent plankton showed up in the ocean where we were staying.
At night, under the twinkling stars, we swam in the dark waters that lit up around us as we moved. We literally GLOWED!
We did this every night followed by a leisurely hot tub . What a blessed life!

"The underwater mosaic of light, each tiny dot of it resembling a firefly, is produced by microscopic plankton that create light through a chemical reaction when disturbed. The tiny organisms, known as dinoflagellates, feed on blue- green algae that flourish in the saltwater lagoon, making their concentrations higher than in regular seawater."
