I think a few words about Syd Barrett are in order today. He passed away
July 7th in his home in England.
I was a Pink Floyd fan in the day. When I was attending art school, a fellow
student brought in a Syd Barrett tape and we listened to it everyday while we painted.
I will always associate his songs with painting.
I was interested to read in the news, that he spent his time painting and gardening.
Sounds like a great life.

Indeed. He also had a lot of mental problems though. Poor guy. But he was the creative force behind Pink Floyd, apparently.
Sad.
I must admit that I wasn't aware that Syd Barrett was still alive, even, So it was sad to discover that he had been alive all along and now he was really dead... if you know what I mean.
I like the way in which he managed to disappear and live life as a normal person, shedding all the trappings of fame.

I was very sad to hear this news. He and his music meant a great deal to many music lovers. Nice work posting about this loss.
I'd like to believe he had a good life despite media rumours about his acid use and possible mental illness. I believe in his case, mental illness was a metaphor and said a lot more about our society than about Bareett. I hope SPIN or Rolling Stone do some good articles on him this coming months, let's look out for them okay, and remind each other to look for them. I am really curious to see what they say...
Candy
good point,
I will watch for them.
The article I read almost made it seem that it was "poor Syd, all he did was paint and garden" ....I thought what is wrong with that!!!
